Snow Day take 2

We've had plenty of snow over the past couple days.  Especially for this Hawaii girl.  Sophie likes the snow, but I didn't plan ahead and get the proper snow gear for the kids, so they can last about ten minutes before they are too cold and need to come inside for some hot chocolate.  Max doesn't like to touch the snow, but he's fine as long as he can stay upright.  Sophie wanted to make a snowman, but her hands were just too cold.  Oh well, maybe next year.

Sophie first snow angel.  She did it all by herself.

So serious.

Max wasn't as excited.

First Snow 2012

The kids were snow (ha ha) excited today to see snow for the first time.  Well, actually it snowed on the day Sophie was born, but she doesn't really remember that.  Max kept running to the window shouting, "Snow, snow".  The kids loved playing outside, and thankfully the snow didn't stick.

She wasn't too impressed with how snow tasted.

A Day

Our coffee table in better days (Jan 1st to be specific) and the culprit ON the coffee table (which is not allowed)
I had a day today and it was not a very good one.  I think that we all go through days where nothing in particular goes our way and it seems like life's little annoyances just start stacking up, one on top of the other.  That was this day for me.  It culminated in Sophie cracking the glass top to our coffee table and was I ever mad.  I put both the kids to bed early and cleaned up the mess.  Then I went upstairs and rocked Max to sleep because was he ever mad.  As I was rocking him I realized that as difficult as today was... it was actually pretty great.  Sophie could have really hurt herself.  She could have fallen through the glass and I could be sitting in the ER right now or worse.  So I gave her an extra big hug and told her how much I loved her (all seven times that she woke up tonight).  Somedays aren't as bad as they seem.

Seattle Trip 2011

My parents and I jumped on the ferry with the kids while they were visiting to hang out at Pike's Place and visit my Great-Aunt and Uncle that live on that side of the water.  Max LOVED the ferry.  He kept saying, "boat, water".  Sophie kept asking if there were alligators in the water.  Thank you Dave for that little phobia.  We had a lot of fun and I can't wait to go back with Dave.  In fact I'm thinking about planning a trip without the kids.  Now that would be fun!

Christmas Day

It was so nice to see the kids enjoying themselves on Christmas Day.  Of course, they should have, considering the amount of toys they received.  They had several large gifts including a spring horse for Sophie from Dave's parents and a work bench for Max from Dave and I.  I am a little disappointed that both kids don't seem to be interested in the toys Dave and I got for them.  Max is a little too young for the work bench (although he'll grow into it in a year or so I would guess) and Sophie doesn't seem interested in the camera we got her although she was constantly borrowing my point and shoot to take photos of the ground and the dogs and her fingers.  Max is loving all the trucks he got from Santa and his grandparents and Sophie is loving her spring horse and rides it quite a bit.  I'm planning on putting their new bean bag chairs in the living room so they can enjoy watching tv and hopefully stop jumping on my couch.

The crazy, insane amount of gifts they received.  Mostly is they are just really big toys.  Plus some of them are mine.  I like to wrap empty boxes of things I've bought myself before Christmas and then open the boxes and act surprised.  I'm a little crazy.

Santa delivered balance bikes, helmets and lots of little toys.

Santa got Sophie's fish a fancy new tank and a castle.

Sophie opening her new camera.  Notice the bandaid on her forehead.  She ran into a picture frame lying against a wall (waiting to be hung) and gave herself a nice little cut.  It's not a holiday until someone's bleeding from a head wound.

Max's new fire truck.  He loves it and it cracked along the top a couple days after Christmas.  I contacted the company and they are sending a replacement tomorrow.  I was super impressed.  Jack Rabbit Creations.  Great customer service.

Christmas Eve 2011

We were so blessed to have my parents join us for Christmas this year.  We did our traditional making cookies for Santa this year.  Although we made our own sugar cookies and royal icing.  They turned out pretty good.  In fact Santa ate all three cookies we left for him.  I found the recipe for the cookies at Bake at 350's cut out cookie recipe.  I think I just googled royal icing and choose one that looked good.  I probably should have added more powder sugar to the icing as it was a little too thin.

For Christmas Eve dinner we had ham.  It was quite good and I'm looking forward to making ham soup tomorrow with my frozen ham bone =).  Stay tuned for the Christmas day post!
