Bronzed Shoes for Sophie

We sent Sophie's first pair of walking shoes off to the American Bronzing Company almost two months ago. I'll admit that Dave really drove the shoe bronzing. I wasn't opposed to it per se; I didn't have any other plans for Sophie's shoes, but I also wasn't as excited as he seemed to be. Until our trip to California, when I saw that Gram-Gram (Dave's grandmother) had each of her kid's shoes bronzed. I'll admit that I thought it was the sweetest thing ever and was much more excited to get Sophie's shoes back. When I checked the mail this afternoon, sure enough Sophie's shoes had returned. I was a little surprised at how light they were. For some reason I was expecting something more like a lead weight. I really like how they look. I'll have to wait until Dave gets home to decide on where they will live. Sophie's room, the china hutch? All in all I am very pleased.

Chillaxin'

The kids have been troopers lately with all the craziness. Max has pretty much grown out of his Bumbo, which makes me even happier I got it half-price off Craigslist. Not only do I have to pry his fat little thighs out of the leg holes, but he consistently tries to arch his way out of it. So now he hangs out on the floor, we're working on rolling over right now.

I find Sophie sitting in Max's bouncer or his car seat on a regular basis. It's because I laughed the first time she did it. The best part is she will turn on the music for the bouncer and just lounge in it for a little while. I guess it must be comfortable.

Behind the Lens: Self Portrait # 3

I know, I know, I should be on self portrait 5 or something. Hey I'm trying but it's been a MAD house around here lately. Not sure what's going on with the kids, but I've been doing a lot of this:

It's not such a bad job, but it really cuts into my ME time. I love being a mom, but some days it just feels like all WORK and no reward. Then Sophie tells me I'm her favorite Mommy and Max smiles when I come around the corner. I shouldn't complain, I have too many blessings to count these days.

Max's First Taste of Rice Cereal

We introduced Max to his first taste of real food a week ago. Not surprisingly, he LOVED it. At first he was a little hesitant, but by the end he was smiling and cooing. I've been looking for organic sweet potatoes (although at this point I would be happy to just find some sweet potatoes) to make some baby food for him. I started out making Sophie's baby food. It really wasn't too much extra work and I'm all about saving money so I can buy more fabric =).

Bon Appetit!

Behind the Lens: Self Portrait # 2

Thirty, that's right boys and girls, I'm thirty. These are the hands of a thirty year old. Age spots, freckles, wrinkles and all. I love my hands. The shape of my fingers remind me of my mother's hands. They are capable and strong, my hands and my mom's. I change diapers and dry tears. I use them to talk and emphasize a point. My fingernails are short because I forget to to have them done. My hands fit perfectly into my husbands hands. I'm pretty sure my hands are getting better with age.

Behind the Lens: Self Portrait # 1

So there's a blog I read. She (the blogger) is taking self portraits of herself for a year. I was/am awed by her bravery. You can check out her blog if you're interested ( The Southern Institute). I am so uncomfortable taking pictures of myself or asking others to take photos of me. I think the last photo I have of myself that I really liked was taken on my wedding day. I was skinny and tanned and happy. Now I'm chunky, pasty, and happy (usually). I also thought of how I was teasing Dave the other day that when the kids look back on photos of us, they are going to think I ceased to exist after 2007. I guess that's when I had something more interesting to take photos of... but won't Sophie want to see photos of me when I was still young, or youngish. So I'm going to give it a shot. It could be great or I could fizzle out after a month. We'll see. Here goes number 1. Numero uno (look at me speaking Spanish, or something).

Notice Sophie in the corner, she helped me press the timer on my camera and insisted on getting in on the action. Yes, I did my hair and make up before I took this. I figured if the first self portrait looked good I would have more incentive to keep it up.
