A Fat Baby Boy

I can't believe Max is already six weeks old. It seems like he's always been a part of our family. He is starting to be awake more often, which is fun and keeps me a lot more busy. He also weighs almost 11 and a half pounds. He has a double chin and fat little legs. He is a good eater and seems to be hungry all the time.
Melissa (my sister), Danny, Jonathan and Jack are visiting on their way to their new duty station. It looks like a trip to Okinawa is in the works now. I better start brushing up on my Japanese.
Here's my mom loving on Max. I can't believe how humid it's been here lately. All the cousins hanging out at my parents house. Sophie and Jonathan are pistols. It's a constant battle to keep them from knocking each other out. My Sophie is a hitter. She just doesn't get that she can't punch someone when they make her mad. We're working on it, hopefully she'll get the memo soon, or I'm going to tape her hands to her sides.

Favorite Swaddling Blanket

I thought I'd start a listing some of my favorite stuff. I think I'm a pretty good judge of kids products, considering I've been taking care of kids since I was twenty. That sounds kind of snobby, but oh so true =).

I just received these baby blankets from my sister Melissa. I LOVE them. They're sold by Luna Lullaby. Made of cotton muslin, they are huge and soft and really light. They're perfect for swaddling Max in our tropical climate, but I imagine they would work just as well in a cooler climate. They're also great as a nursing cover, carseat cover, I think it would even work as a scarf. Love, love, love them. They come three to a pack and have the cutest patterns.

Here's my little man hanging out with his new blanket.

Swimming at Mare and Pops House

Sophie hasn't been able to pronounce Grandma, so she's been calling my mom Mare. It's really cute, and to be honest I'm going to be a little sad when she gets the pronunciation correct. So that explains my title. My sister Melissa, and her boys are visiting Hawaii on their way to their new duty station and the kids were playing in my parents backyard. There was a lot of screaming and running as they sprayed each other with the hose. In fact Sophie has a tendency to go for the face. My poor nephew, he's pretty good natured about it. I'd probably pop her one =).
Here's me and Max. Max is almost five weeks old. He's still a good natured little baby.

Here's my most recent Mommy Fail. Sophie took it upon herself to feed the dogs. Apparently we're (and by we I mean me) starving them. This is Duncan's food. I was working on my computer and she came to tell me she had fed Duncan.

She was so proud of herself. The dogs had helped themselves to quite a bit of food before we managed to clean up the mess.

Sigrid's Carrot Cake via Pioneer Woman

I made Pioneer Woman's carrot cake for Easter. I halved the recipe and baked it in cute little bundt cake pans. I also warmed up the cream cheese frosting enough to make it more glaze like. It was really good. You can find the recipe here: http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2010/03/sigrids-carrot-cake-my-favorite-easter-treat/

Easter Bunny

Sophie and Max met the Easter Bunny a couple weeks ago. Sophie thought he was great. She ran up to him and gave him a big hug.

Easter 2010

We had another great holiday. Dave has managed to be home for most of the major holidays this year, which is always wonderful. We're all slowly settling into life with a newborn, and before we know it, Max won't be so new. Sophie is still a great big sister and Max is so sweet. Sometimes I'm just astounded at how lucky I am to have such a beautiful and happy family.

The Easter Bunny picked up most of the kids gifts before Max was born in anticipation of being busy and tired closer to the actual day. Max got several things he needed and a couple toys. The bath towels, wash cloths and pacifiers were needed. The toys are pretty much the only ones he has that aren't hand me downs. Plus he got several books, since we're such big readers, and the original Toy Story movie.

Here's Sophie basket. The Easter Bunny went with a fairy theme. Daddy helped the Easter Bunny choose a fairy book and Mommy chose fairy wings. We were both disappointed when she seemed more excited about the Hershey's Kisses. Oh well. She also got bubble bath, bubbles, and some more books. She is really loving the Bearenstein Bears books, and Target has started carrying the originals.

We were attempting to get Sophie to smile at the camera. At this point having her look at the camera would have been sufficient.

She is such a little sour puss sometimes. This is by far the best photo, and you can't tell, but Dave and my Dad are looking at Sophie. In. Every. Photo.

Here she is waiting for the Egg Hunt to start. It rained off and on all day, so we had to fit the Hunt in between rain showers. We had it in our backyard. She was chomping at the bit by the time it started.Nope, no eggs there. The Easter Bunny did too good a job hiding eggs. Apparently the Easter Bunny didn't have realistic expectations of the abilities of a two and a half year old at finding eggs. We ended up tossing some out into the middle of the yard after the Easter Bunny realized Sophie was too short to see some of the eggs.

Luckily Sophie had some help with her Hunt.

Happy Easter!

Grammy's Visit

Dave, Sophie, Max and I were lucky enough to have Dave's mom, Missy come visit a week after Max was born. She was so helpful, she cooked, cleaned, played with Sophie, rocked Max. Sophie just loves her Grammy and they had so much fun going to the playground in our neighborhood. Here's a couple photos we took right before she left.

Sophie's Big Bike Ride

Sophie wanted to ride her bike down to the park. Grandma Webber took her and got quite the workout. Sophie hasn't quite mastered riding by herself yet. She's still working on keeping her feet on the pedals. She sure looks cute in her helmet though. I keep thinking I need to get her some knee pads.

Sophie loves holding Max. She is doing really well and likes to bring him his lovey.

I think Max is looking more and more like Sophie as he puts on weight.

Storytime for Two

Sophie gets a story before nap and before bed everyday. I don't know how often I've read that it's important to have a routine, so Sophie gets a story of her choosing. Since Max's arrival we've tried to include him in her bed and naptime routine. Sophie really enjoys laying next to Max as we read to her. She's doing a really good job adjusting to being a big sister.

Welcome to the World Max!

Maxwell George Edgerton
Born: March 6, 2010, 4:22pm
Weighing: 7 lbs 5 oz
Measuring: 19 inches
Here' s Max right after he was born. I had a relatively easy labor. I spent most of it at home. I went into labor around 4:30 am, was admitted to the hospital around 1pm, and gave birth at 4:22pm. We really liked all the doctors, midwife, and nurses that helped us deliver Max.

Here's Sophie meeting Max for the first time. She knew right away that he was "my baby Max" and insisted on holding him. She has been trying to hold him ever since. She also keeps saying "pretty baby Max" and "little baby Max". She is firmly in love.

Here's Max at one day old.

Dave, Max, and I ready to leave the hospital. They let us go after 24 hours but we will check in today to make sure Max is doing well.

Here's Max and Sophie meeting at home. We are settling in well. Sophie really loves her little brother and is excited to have her own baby at home. Especially since several of her friends also welcomed home siblings in the last couple months. Thanks for all the well wishes. I'm working on getting back into fighting form. My mom and Dave are really helpful and we're excited to have Dave's mom coming to help this coming weekend.

Valentine's Day... Finally

It only took us about two extra weeks, but we finally celebrated Valentine's Day. These trips to Guam for Dave really cut into family time. Sophie got one of those foam floor alphabet sets from Dave and I. She and Dave love it, but I have to admit that I'm getting tired of picking up little foam pieces all over the house. Sophie also got this pretty dress from her Grammy and Grandad in Texas. Here's the best shot I could get of her spinning, which she loves to do when wearing her pretty princess dress.

Sophie's next favorite thing to do is run. She runs everywhere. At our house you really can hear the patter of little feet as she runs from one room or activity to the next. I just love her little face. I can't believe she's almost two and a half.

We're currently working on teaching Sophie her colors. Right now everything is either red or blue. Every once in a while she comes out with pink, but it's not going great. If anyone has any tips, I'd appreciate it.
This was my Valentine's Day craft project. I found this really cute Maya Road mailbox on Two Peas in a Bucket (my favorite scrapbook shopping site) and I just had to have it. I pretty much craft-lifted the entire project from something I had seen on the internet. I'm really happy with how it turned out. I used Pink Paislee paper, Prima flowers, and a bunch of Maya Road embellishments.
I made this flowers following a tutorial on www.lollychops.com. They were a lot of fun to make and didn't take too long.

I haven't posted any photos of Duncan recently. He's looking a little older, but not as fat as usual. Having Kea around to chase has really helped get his weight under control.

Here's Kea, I can't believe we've had her almost six months. How time flies when you're housebreaking a puppy... or attempting to.
Here's a sneak peek of Max's room. We just got the art work we're planning on hanging back from the framers, so we'll hang that hopefully tonight and post some more pictures in a couple days. Not too much longer until Max joins us. I'm getting pretty uncomfortable, so I'm more than ready for him to make his appearance. I think Dave's ready for his paternity leave. He gets two weeks, Yeah Navy! Sophie asked me yesterday when she could hold Baby Max, so I think we're all getting impatient.
